Fallen in love with an item, but it's not available in the perfect color? Then choose our upcycle option. Without having to get to work with paint and brushes yourself, we'll take care of the furniture in your perfect color!

What is Upcycling?
We believe in reuse and circular shopping, but we also understand that you want to decorate your child's room entirely to your taste.
With upcycling, we increase the option of giving a second-hand piece of furniture a new home. Our professional upcycle partner (CWU) restores the item and gives it a beautiful, new color.
In this way, we contribute together to a circular world, and you get a unique piece of furniture that perfectly matches your style.
Who do you work with?
Nieuw Nest collaborates with the Circular Workshop Utrecht (CWU), a social workplace where craftsmanship and sustainability go hand in hand.
Each item is assigned to one dedicated craftsman or craftswoman, who refurbishes it from start to finish. This ensures your furniture is worked on with care and attention.
What are the costs?
We assess the cost per item as this depends on, among other things, the type of furniture, its condition, and the desired finish.
A guideline you can consider:
- High chair: € 95,-
- Cot: between € 150,- and € 175,-
- Changing table: the price is calculated based on the size of the fronts (length × height).
Painting exterior = € 150,- per m²
Painting exterior and interior = € 250,- per m².
How long does it take to upcycle an item?
The CWU has a piece of furniture refurbished by one specific participant, which means that an average upcycling project takes 6 to 8 weeks.
We will, of course, keep you informed throughout the process!
Can every item be customized?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. For each piece of furniture, we assess whether it is suitable for a second life in a new colour.
If an item can be upcycled, we clearly state this in the product description. You can also recognise these pieces of furniture in the webshop by the multi-colour swatch in the colour options.
If you do not see this option for a product, then we only sell the item in the condition and colour as shown in the photos.
Until when can you cancel your order?
Once the invoice for the upcycling costs has been paid, the furniture will be sent to our professional upcycling partner. You can cancel your order up until the moment the furniture goes into production. Once it is in production, cancellation is no longer possible.
